For factory-fitted radio and navigation devices, the aerial for radio reception can be installed in various locations in the vehicle:

• On the inside of the rear window, together with the rear window heating.

• On the inside of the rear side windows.

• On the inside of the windscreen.

• On the roof of the vehicle.

Aerials on the interior of the windows can be identified by thin wires.

NOTICE

Aerials located on the inside of the windows can be damaged by corrosive or acidic detergents, any other chemicals or if hard objects chafe against the window. Never apply stickers over the window aerials and never clean the aerials with corrosive or acidic detergents or any other chemicals.

NOTICE

When retrofitting a radio or a navigation system ensure that the vehicle's standard integral aerial amplifier is compatible with the radio or navigation system or else use an additional antenna adapter. Otherwise the aerial amplifier could be subjected to overvoltage damage.

Interference of AM radio reception could occur if electrical devices are used in the vicinity of the aerials in the windows.

Where are the radio aerials on the Golf Mk7?

Depending on the model: integrated into the rear window heating element, in a fin on the roof, or in the front windscreen. The location determines signal quality.

Can I replace the Golf Mk7 roof fin aerial myself?

The manual recommends having it done by a workshop. The fin may contain GPS, phone and radio aerials, and incorrect refitting can damage the roof seal.

Does an automatic car wash damage the Golf Mk7 roof aerial?

Shark-fin aerials are designed for car washes, but very aggressive brush rollers can occasionally dislodge the fin. Check it is secure after washing.
