Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Owners Manual: Overview of the driver side

This driver side overview maps every control the driver reaches from the seat of the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 — the light switch, the turn signal and main beam lever, the windscreen wiper lever, the instrument cluster and the multifunction steering wheel with cruise control (CCS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and speed-limiter buttons. The layout is shown for both left-hand and right-hand drive Golf Mk7 models, and it also flags the ignition lock, the pedals, the steering-column adjustment lever and the driver knee airbag and front airbag housed in the dash panel. Use it as a quick map before diving into the detailed sections on lighting, wipers, the instrument cluster and the driver assist systems.

    Questions & answers

Overview of the driver side — Volkswagen Golf Mk7

What controls are on the driver side of the Volkswagen Golf Mk7?
The driver side groups every control within reach of the driver: the light switch with headlight range adjuster, left-hand lever for main beam, turn signals and cruise control, right-hand lever for wipers and washers, the instrument cluster, the multifunction steering wheel, horn, ignition lock, pedals, and the steering column adjustment lever.
Where is the light switch on the Golf Mk7 and what does it control?
The light switch is at the far left of the dash panel, next to the driver door. It selects daytime running lights, automatic headlight control, side lights and dipped beam, and fog lights. A separate dial below it adjusts headlight range and instrument lighting brightness.
What functions does the left-hand lever next to the Golf Mk7 steering column have?
The lever on the left operates main beam and dipped beam headlights, the headlight flasher, turn signals and parking lights. On equipped cars it also carries the switches for the cruise control system (CCS), speed limiter and the button for activating driver assist systems.
What can the Golf Mk7 multifunction steering wheel control?
The multifunction steering wheel has buttons for cruise control or Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), volume for radio, navigation and phone calls, the Volkswagen information system, accepting phone calls, activating voice commands, and scrolling through audio and navigation menus.
Where are the airbags located on the driver side of the Golf Mk7?
The driver front airbag is in the centre of the steering wheel, and the driver knee airbag is housed in the lower dash panel. Both positions are marked in the overview diagrams for left-hand and right-hand drive vehicles.
Is the driver side layout different on left-hand and right-hand drive Golf Mk7 models?
The controls are mirrored but functionally identical. Fig. 5 in the manual shows the left-hand drive arrangement and Fig. 6 the right-hand drive one. The light switch, lever functions and steering wheel buttons work the same way on both.
