Because of its system limitations, ACC should be switched off temporarily on the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 in specific situations: turning off roads, driving around roundabouts or narrow curves, and joining or exiting motorways among them. This page lists every situation where the system's assumptions can break down.

First read and observe the introductory information and safety warnings 

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) should be switched off in the following situations due to system limitations  :

  • When turning off roads, driving around roundabouts, narrow curves, joining motorways, exiting from motorways or driving through road works, to prevent the vehicle from unnecessarily accelerating to the set speed in these situations
  • When driving through a tunnel as this situation could impair the system function.
  • On roads with more than one lane, if other vehicles are driving more slowly in the fast lane. The slower vehicles in the other lane would be overtaken from the right side in this case.
  • In heavy rain, snow or spray as vehicles travelling ahead cannot be monitored sufficiently or maybe cannot be monitored at all.

WARNING

Failure to switch off the ACC in the above-mentioned situations can cause accidents and result in serious injuries.
  • Always switch off the ACC in critical driving situations.

    When should I switch off Golf Mk7 ACC?
    When turning off roads, driving through roundabouts, tight curves, road works, toll booths, joining or exiting motorways, in poor visibility, on icy or wet roads, or when driving on rolling road test beds.
    Why should Golf Mk7 ACC be off in roundabouts and tight bends?
    The radar may lose the vehicle ahead around a curve or detect vehicles in adjacent lanes, causing unexpected braking or acceleration.
    Does Golf Mk7 ACC work reliably on icy roads?
    No. On slippery surfaces the braking distances are much longer than ACC assumes, and wheels may lock or spin. Switch ACC off in these conditions.
