Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing rear bass loudspeakers -R15-/-R17-, 4-door

On 4-door models, rear bass loudspeakers -R15-/-R17- are located at the bottom of the rear doors — this page covers removal, described for the left side.

Rear left bass loudspeakers -R15-/rear right bass loudspeakers -R17- are located in rear doors (bottom).
  Note
Removal and installation are described for the left side. Removal and installation on the right side are carried out in the same way.
Removing
–  Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers, and remove ignition key.
–  Remove rear door trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
   
–  Release locking mechanism of connector on rear left bass loudspeaker -R15- in direction of arrow.
–  Pull connector -1- out.

–  Drill out rivet -1- with a suitable drill bit.
–  Remove front left bass loudspeaker -R15-.
  Caution
It is essential that all swarf be removed from the door because otherwise corrosion damage will occur.
Immediately rectify any paintwork damage caused when drilling out the rivets.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal. When doing this, note the following:

When installing loudspeaker, secure it with special blind rivets (note part number).
